Whether hippopotamus or camel, the digital euro in mascot form or a 12.5 kg gold bar: on 14 and 15 September, the Deutsche Bundesbank's Open Day in Frankfurt was a ‘Come in and touch’ event. More than 11,000 people visited the Bundesbank's headquarters in Hesse and experienced a varied and exciting programme at the German central bank under the motto ‘Backstage Bundesbank’. From counterfeit money training, presentations in ‘elevator pitch format’, the ‘hot wire’ reaction test or Metaverse in the club room to music and show acts as well as a colourful children's programme, including the football workshops with football freestylers Jasmijn Janssen and Tommy Rist, to presentations on the Bundesbank's tasks, guided tours and a virtual tour of the institution: the Bundesbank opened its doors and a vault and provided insights into its central tasks and, at least virtually, into the office of Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel and the Council Chamber of the European Central Bank.
Making the Bundesbank visible and familiarising citizens with its tasks - that was the challenge that our agency project team faced for the second time since 2022: The task was to conceptualise, plan and implement a major two-day public event for the interested public of Frankfurt's urban society with an exciting event dramaturgy and unusual insights into the Bundesbank. A visitor guidance system and visitor tracking ensured clarity and event security, optimised stage positioning, set-ups and barriers were designed to be precise, event-specific and barrier-free.
The concept: modern and clear, focussing on impulse communication and information exchange. The aim of our event concept: identification and interaction via intelligent infotainment. We were able to lay the foundations for sustainable structures in 2022 and now build on them in the best possible way. Our team: creative and competent.
'With the Open Day, we want to make the Bundesbank visible and familiarise citizens with its tasks. And we succeeded across the board with Backstage Bundesbank,' Ingrid Herden, Head of Corporate Communications, is quoted in the Deutsche Bundesbank press release of 17 September 2024, looking back on the event.
