Simon reports on his training as an event manager, the multifaceted professional field, and the special circumstances of the current challenges. After four years at the agency, he is now a competent project manager, and provides exciting impressions from the event industry. In September 2022, the new apprenticeship will start at the agency. This is your chance to enter this exciting professional world. We are looking forward to receiving your applications.

You have a thousand questions in your head? Simon will try to answer three of them for you.

Event management – how did you end up there?
Events are a cool thing. Everyone knows that everyone wants to go there. But I’ve always been interested in the background. How do you put on a show? How is the technology coordinated? Who holds all the threads together? That is why I worked for an event technology company while I was still at school. Afterwards, my voluntary year of social service (FSJ) in event marketing showed me clearly: I’m more interested in the organisational aspect of events than the pure technical implementation. After the year, I applied via the agency website, and in the first few days of my internship it was clear: this is it.

What about ‘it’?
Never boring. This job is enormously versatile – a versatility that no other occupational field can offer. The exact questions mentioned at the beginning are all combined in this profession. The team and I accompany set-ups of big events, take part in international pitches, travel to different locations, conceive great shows together. Even though the pace is high, this is what I love to do: creating, researching, developing campaigns, and seeing how my own ideas become reality. We work for car manufacturers, the public sector, large corporations, or ministries –bthinking big is the motto and crazy ideas are always welcome.

What has been the biggest challenge so far?
The biggest challenge was at the beginning of the pandemic: making the switch from analogue to digital or hybrid – and all that instantaneous. No one was prepared for this situation, but now, when I look back on more than 60 successful international online events, digital productions, and hybrid events, this achievement makes me proud. Completely new paths opened, but we had to walk on them. Building digital platforms, presenting event modules via the web, developing branding, graphics, and texts – all of this is now suddenly part of my job! We would like to continue to convey our messages and stage them in any form. The biggest challenge is to find new ways to inspire people digitally now.
